Quebec sends 20 forest firefighters to the state of Connecticut

Resource loan
The Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU), in collaboration with the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts (MRNF), is supporting the State of Connecticut, which is dealing with a major forest fire in the Hawthorne sector. A section of twenty forest firefighters and a SOPFEU representative left Quebec this morning, by land aboard seven vans, bound for Newington.
At the end of this season when SOPFEU’s resources are in much less demand, it is possible for the organization to lend resources to its counterparts in the United States without affecting its response capacity in Quebec.
Since the start of the protection season in Quebec, the 334 fires fought in the Intensive Protection Zone have affected 16,910 hectares of forest. SOPFEU urges the public to remain cautious during this fall period, when conditions may still be conducive to the outbreak of fires.
