This broad call for applications, which will run until mid-January 2025, aims to recruit women and men to support the organization in pursuing its mission to protect the forest, communities and strategic infrastructure against forest and vegetation fires, while ensuring the sustainability of the forest environment. This is a unique and rewarding job, which will lead candidates to travel throughout the province, even across the country and abroad, and to surpass themselves on a daily basis.

Jobs are available throughout Quebec, based on the needs that will be identified in the various SOPFEU operating bases, located in Baie-Comeau, Bonaventure, Havre-Saint-Pierre, Rimouski, Sept-Îles, Roberval, Duchesnay, La Tuque, Chibougamau, Maniwaki, Mont-Tremblant, Val-d’Or, Lebel-sur-Quévillon and Matagami.

According to SOPFEU, being a forest firefighter is more than a job, it is an extraordinary lifestyle, close to nature and in the heart of the forest. It is also the chance to travel, sometimes by helicopter or all-terrain vehicle, to reach your assigned location and fight forest fires. It is also a seasonal job, which allows you to carry out personal projects or other professional activities during the winter season. Those who wish to get more involved can also progress within the organization towards a multitude of professions, including several year-round positions.

As the only organization in Quebec whose mission is to protect forests against fire, SOPFEU selects, trains, coaches and develops its own resources to enable employees to improve their skills and advance within the organization. Diverse and stimulating career paths are open to all those who wish to take part in SOPFEU's mission.

To apply, you must hold one of the following diplomas: Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP), Diploma of College Studies (DEC) or a Bachelor's degree (BAC) in one of the following fields: forestry, wildlife or development, fire safety, ecology, biology, environment or geography, leisure and adventure tourism, other relevant related fields, or have a minimum of three years of work experience in the forest.
