12 actions to protect your home
Why is it important to maintain the property to reduce fire risk?

When a home or cottage is located in or near a forested area, the ground cover and vegetation surrounding the property can become a pathway for wildfire to reach the building.
If the yard is overgrown with tall grass, brush, dead branches, or plant debris, fire can spread more easily toward the home, putting the property at risk.
A well-maintained lawn is more fire-resistant. Proper lawn care can help slow the spread of a wildfire toward the home. To achieve this, grass should be neither too long nor too short. It is recommended to mow the lawn to a maximum height of 10 centimetres (4 inches) to prevent it from turning into brush.
During dry periods, brush becomes highly flammable and could create a direct path for fire to reach the building.
Par ailleurs, si le gazon est coupé trop court, il devient vulnérable à l’assèchement et inflammable.
